Rewiring the foot controller

After finishing with the case spruce up, I moved on to the foot controller. This machine’s controller had been rewired a long time ago with what looks like brown lamp wire. It was done well enough but and update was called for!

I prefer to completely replace the old controller plug with a new model rather than messing with the fancy knots required to replace wire in the original bakelite plug. The new plugs have wires that come out on the front and back making it easier to manage the cords when actually sewing. That said, if an owner prefers that the machine stay as vintage as possible, I can and have rewired them.

The foot controller is opened up, cleaned and regreased/oiled, and finally rewired. Then I polish the exterior, clean and oil the screws, and replace the foot cushions.

Once complete the controller is plugged into the machine and it’s testing time! If you watch the video, you will find that in this machines case, it all works beautifully except that motor… wow does that seem slow to me but not to worry - the motor will have its turn.

Test of the completed foot controller.
